Born and raised in Wisconsin, Shirley’s passion for painting began at an early age. A self-taught artist, Shirley spent seventeen years in beautiful northern California where she painted old Spanish missions, ocean scenes, and landmark bridges from her own photography.
After moving to Arizona, Shirley developed her oil painting skills in a workshop with Lloyd Johnson and Tom Kutshied. She then studied under Jane Bradley and learned much about portrait painting. In 2015 Shirley was awarded Artwork of the Year by the Mesa Art League.

One of the most unusual commissions Shirley has received was a request to paint a tree on a hillside. The landscape was part of a client’s parents’ property in the mountains of Colorado; his father and sister are buried under the tree. The treasured painting now hangs in her client’s home in Gilbert, AZ.
Much of Shirley’s work is displayed in her Mesa studio. Visits are by appointment only, so please call 480-710-2863 to schedule a time or use the form below to reach out.
